It is BACK by popular demand!  The XCELL Holiday Fitness Challenge!

This eight-week program is designed to help you prevent gaining unwanted weight that usually doesn’t go away after the holidays.

Plus, by staying active and motivated through friendly competition, you’ll better manage the stresses and craziness that goes along with this time of year!

Okay, now for all the details!

How to Participate:

The Holiday Fitness Challenge begins Friday, Nov. 4 and ends Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017 at 12 midnight. You can sign up anytime during the Challenge. The Challenge is open to all ages, abilities, and fitness levels from newcomers to uber-fit endurance types.

After you sign up come get weighed and measured with either Coach Mel or Coach Jackie.  We will do weigh ins at Henderson Physical therapy as well as at Whitney Aquatic Center and Pavilion Pool (Pavilion – Monday and Wednesday mornings only).

Next, commit to staying fit over the holidays! You can:

  • Take part in some of the Challenge challenges!
  • Do the throw downs


  • You can do your own thing

The most important thing is to keep moving!

The Schedule:

  • The Challenge starts Friday, Nov. 4th
  • Throw Down #1: Saturday, Nov. 26th  at 11:30 a.m. starts at Henderson Physical Therapy
  • Throw Down #2: Saturday, Dec. 10 at 11:30 a.m. starts at Henderson Physical Therapy
  • Throw Down #3: Saturday, Dec. 17 at 11:30 a.m. starts at Henderson Physical Therapy
  • XCELL Polar Plunge: Sunday, Jan. 1 at 11 a.m. at Lake Las Vegas, The Village
  • The Challenges ends Sunday, Jan. 1 at midnight
  • Awards: Friday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m., location: “Due and Proper”  Of course, wear XCELL to the awards!

How the XCELL Holiday Fitness Challenge Works:

This is an accountability fitness challenge. To win the top prizes you need to earn points based on the system below. The more points you accumulate, the bigger a prize you can win. A variety of categories will keep it fun:

  • Weight
  • Body Fat
  • Activity
  • Demonstration
  • Participation
  • Competition
  • Bonus Actions

Points awarded as follows:

Category: Weight

Points based on the difference between your initial weight and ending weight.

  • No weight gain: +20 points
  • Weight loss of 1- 5 lbs: +25 points
  • Weight loss of 6-15 lbs: +30 points
  • Weight loss of 16+ lbs: +40 points

Category: Body Fat

Points based on the difference between your initial and ending body fat numbers.

  • No increase: +10 points
  • Loss of .10 – 2%: +20 points
  • Loss of 2.1 – 4%: +30 points
  • Loss of 4.1 – 6%: +35
  • Loss of more than 6.1%: +40 points

Category: Activity

Points based on the total logged workout hours between the start and end dates of the Challenge:

  • 40-55 logged workout hours: + 10 points
  • 56-85 logged workout hours: +15
  • 86-199 logged workout hours:  +20
  • Workout Every Day during Challenge: +10 additional points

Category: Participation

  • XCELL Indoor Bike Class*: +1 for each class
  • XCELL Swim Class**: +1 for each class
  • XCELL Wake up Body Class*** +1 point for each class

You can do workouts of less than 1 hour and then add them together for a daily total. For example, you walk 30 minutes in the morning then 10 minutes of abs afterwards, and bike 20 minutes later in the day. The time must add up to one hour PER DAY for points toward the Workout Every Day Challenge.

*The drop in fee for each XCELL indoor bike class is $10 or the Bike Class Punch Card is $75  for 10 classes. Yes, you can pay at the door.

** The drop in fee for the “Swim Training for Triathletes” session at Whitney Ranch Aquatic Center is $10 per class or $42 for entire month of November and $21 for month of December (no classes during Holidays). Payment is made  through the City of Henderson Parks & Recreation. You can pay online or register at the Whitney Ranch Aquatic Center’s front desk.

*** The drop in fee for Wake Up Body class is ONLY $5.

Category: Demonstration

Each participant who completes a Throw Down earns bonus points!

Three Throw Downs: Saturdays at 11 a.m. at Henderson Physical Therapy,

1358 Paseo Verdi Pkwy, Henderson NV  89012 Suite #200 (second floor) 

Be ready for anything.  We will start at Henderson Physical Therapy and may venture to a local park.  The following MAY be part of the challenge:

  • Just showing up earns you +5 points
  • Push-ups
  • Pull-ups
  • Planks
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Crunches
  • Squats
  • Burpees

*To earn points, your push-ups, planks, crunches, and squats must be done with GOOD FORM as determined by Coach. Exercises done with poor form will NOT earn points; however, you will have the opportunity to keep going with GOOD FORM. After you sign up you will be sent “GOOD FORM” specifics.

NOTE: The Video Option is not available this year; however, there are many challenges and ways you can earn points.

Category: Competition

Score extra points by entering an organized running race, bike ride or other endurance event!

  • 5k or any other organized race, ride, walk under 1 hour: +5 points
  • 10K, sprint triathlon or organized ride under 99 miles: +10 points
  • Organized bike ride between 51-110 miles: +12 points
  • Half marathon, Ragnar, Olympic distance triathlon or organized ride over 111 miles : +15 points
  • Half Ironman: +20 points
  • Marathon: +20 points
  • Ironman distance triathlon or Ultra Run: +30 points

Entry or registration fees for the events listed under Competition are not included in the Holiday Fitness Challenge fee.

Category: Bonus Actions

  • XCELL Abs Challenge: +5 points
  • Yoga Challenge: +15 points
    • Take a yoga class at a studio of your choice for 30 days in a row
    • Requires instructors to sign-off, confirming your attendance
    • Cost: varies per studio and is not included in the Holiday Fitness Challenge fee
  • XCELL Polar Plunge, Jan. 1 at 11 a.m., The Village at Lake Las Vegas
    • Swim to the first buoy and back
      • No wetsuit: +20 points
      • With a wetsuit: +10 points
    • Best costume: +10 points
    • Any costume: +5 points
    • Cost: $10

Other WAYS to Earn Points:

  • Donate prize worth $25: +10 points
  • Donate a prize worth $50: +20 points
  • Get someone to sign up who has never done the Challenge: +10 points
  • Get three people to sign up who have never done the challenge: +40 points

And Even MORE Ways:

  • 30 Days of No (added) Sugar Challenge: +10 points
  • 30 Day Arm Challenge: +10  – Follow posted arm routine.
  • 30 Day Bike Challenge: +10 – Ride your bike every day for 30 day for at least 30 minutes – indoors or outdoors.
  • 30 day Walk Challenge: +10  – Walk 1 hour per day, every day for 30 days.
  • 30 day Butt challenge: +10  – Follow posted butt, er GLUTE Challenge. There are a couple to choose from.
  • 30 Day Splits Challenge: +10  – Follow posted Splits challenge
  • 30 Day Yoga Challenge: +10 – Choose your own class.  Attend 30 consecutive day
  • 30 day Gratitude Challenge: + 10  – Keep a journal of 10 things you are grateful for everyday.
  • 30 day Meditation Challenge: +10 – Meditate for at least 10 minutes per day.
  • 30 Day Run Challenge: +10 Run 1 mile every day for 30 days
  • 30 Day Clean Eating Challenge: +15
  • 30 Day Full Body Workout: +15

You may do as many of these Challenges as you think you can actually complete.

To get points you MUST

  • State your intention.
  • Do the work.
  • Regularly post your progress
  • Submit your weekly time sheets!
  • At the completion, briefly summarize what you got out of the experience
